The Rough Collie, also known as Long-Haired Collie, is a popular and very active family dog. Typical characteristics are the long-haired, coarse, outer coat and a woolly soft undercoat, which forms a notable ruff around the neck.
Rough Collies generally come in shades of sable and white, blue merle (a mottled pattern), tri-colored, and colour-headed white.
The breed exhibits basic herding tendencies, and also been known to work as search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs and guide dogs for the blind.
